Jesus is Watching You

A burglar broke into a home and was looking around. He heard a soft voice say, "Jesus is watching you". Thinking it was just his imagination, he continued his search. Again the voice said "Jesus is watching you". He turned his flashlight around and saw a parrot in a cage.

He asked the parrot if he was the one talking and the parrot said, "yes."

He asked the parrot what his name was and the parrot said, "Moses."

The burglar asked, "what kind of people would name a parrot Moses?"

The parrot said, "the same kind of people who would name their pit bull Jesus".

By Choice, Not By Chance

A lady who was known as Churchill's main rival in parliament was giving a speech. Churchill, with his usual enthusiasm for his rival, dozed off while the lady was speaking.

She stopped her speech and awoke Sir Winston by yelling, "Mr. Churchill, must you sleep while I talk?"

Churchill sleepily replied, "No, ma'am. I do so purely by choice."

Doing What Makes You Happy

Albert Schweitzer is quoted as saying, "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you'll be a success."

Eagleboy's version: Money doesn't bring you happiness. But happiness brings you money. The happier you are, the more energy you have to jump over obstacles, & make some decent money. But the question remains: How to be happy? Here's one way:

Can you imagine doing what you love? I can.
Can you imagine following your dream? I can.
Can you imagine following your dream, doing what you love and creating an income by doing such? I can.

What if I told you that it could be done? But what happens if I told you that it would take hard work & effort? Wouldn't that decrease your excitement? Sian Liao (means bored already)? What if I told you that you are going to come up against roadblocks, would you still continue? Sibeh Sian Liao (means very bored already)!

Is your dream and love for your passion so powerful that when family and friends tell you that "it can't be done" you are still willing to move ahead and stick to your convictions? I know what I am talking about here. I have been through that kind of circumstances twice before. Let me share this with you my friend. My life has been filled with roadblocks, obstacles and negative people. But that was my past. My present is different now, and my future is even better.

So, here's the question: What are your dreams & passion? More importantly, what are you willing to do or sacrifice to follow your passion? Success and happiness can be yours. Especially success, if you are doing what makes you happy.

Focus on things that can bring you lasting joy & satisfaction, as opposed to the short-lived thrill of splurging at the Great Singapore Sales. That's because as much as I love to shop (and I suspect I'm not alone), economists have yet to find a connection between sales at Best Buy & true happiness. In fact, a lifestyle based on constant consumption probably won't make you happy.

Why? When we spend money on certain material goods or status items, there is a ''no natural stopping point.'' There will always be a bigger house, a fancier car, a more expensive watch to go after. But when it comes to "intrinsic needs", like food, rest, relationships, health, most people can naturally reach a point of satisfaction.

Thus, focusing more on quality of life, as opposed to stuff, appears to be a better goal. To many, that may means cutting down on that 15-hours-a-day job; coming back early instead of entertaining clients till midnight; slowing down; pay-cut; not taking that promotion etc. That's call surrendering money to regain personal time.

I read an article recently about someone who decided it was worth giving up a raise and a promotion to have more time with her baby daughter. She decided to switch jobs, taking a significant pay cut, to reduce her three-hour daily commute and 12-hour-plus workdays.

This is what she said (I quote):

"What I gained was really worth the money I gave up," she says, estimating the total loss at $10,000 a year, including lost matching funds to her 401(k). "I got a life."

In addition to the sanity and the flexibility her new job provides, "I get home in time to play with my daughter and even relax a little."

The biggest payoff was when she and her husband learned recently that she was pregnant, "and instead of freaking out, we are only filled with joy. That is worth giving up untold amounts of money for!"

It's so easy to drift through life, thinking of money as a merely financial matter and happiness as an emotional one. Truth is: the two are connected, and our view of money & how we spend can change our life for the better. Our view of our pay & how we appear to impress others can alter our health & overall well-being.

Someone told me that I shouldn't do the things I don't understand, & spend money I don't have, to impress people I don't like, for reasons I don't know. I encourage you to invest more in your own happiness.

Don't just follow the crowd.
Don't just follow the herd (unless you are a cow).
Follow your heart.
And please don't follow me (home) too, unless you are cute & gorgeous.

Books I Read

"The things I want to know are in books; my best friend is the man who'll get me a book I ain't read."
-Abraham Lincoln

"There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island... and best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life."
- Walt Disney

"It isn't what the book costs; it's what it will cost if you don't read it."
- Jim Rohn

The latest book I came into possession is 'Dare to be Different' by Alessandro Forte. I will put up some summarised ideas once I am done with it. As of now, I am one-fifth the way there. Good stuff! This is one book that I highly recommend if you want to soar like an eagle in your business, & if your business is in the financial industry, man, please own your own copy. Mine is not for lease, gift, rental, borrow, or copy.

"Well, good luck to you, you have made your own choice! Now tell me this. "What comes first, Day or Night?"

The boy was jolted into reality as his admission depends on the correctness of his answer, but he thought for a while and said, "It's the DAY sir!"

"How" the interviewer asked.

"Sorry sir, you promised me that you will not ask me a SECOND difficult question!"

Charting Success

Charting Your Course to Success
(Taken from : Take Yourself to the Top! by Chris Widener)

Everybody wants to get to the top, whether it is the top of a career, a company, the earnings scale, or the many other ways that we as individuals can define the "top" in our own lives! But with so many people trying to get to the top, how come so many people aren´t moving up? I think there are some fundamental reasons why. Reasons that can be addressed and changed!

What are some things you can do to get to the top? Here are some thoughts for you.

First of all, define what the "top" means for you.
This is extremely important because if you don't know where you are going, you will never get there! Some people don't want to be the CEO of the company. In fact, many think they are better off then the CEO even though they don't make as much money. Instead, they think they are at the top because of less stress, weekends with their families, etc., and I see their point. It doesn't matter what others think is the top, only what you do, since you are only gauging whether or not YOU get there! So where is it for you? That is the first question for you to answer.

Be passionate about your goal.
Passion is the energy that drives us, or, as Alexander Pope said, passions are the "gales of life". Passion is the wind in the sails of work. Find some thing you love and you will find something you can get to the top of. If you don't love it, you may still make it to the top, though highly unlikely. And even if you do, there will be no joy. Let your passion carry you, because it will carry you far! Thomas Fuller put it this way: A man with passion rides a horse that runs away with him.

The will to continue in the face of hardship.
Another reason most will not get to the top is because they simply refuse to scale the mountains of hardship that separate them from the top. If you want to get to the beautiful view from the top, you will have to climb over any obstacles. Instead, many choose to stay at base camp! One would think that Bjorn Borg, one of the greatest tennis players to ever live, would consider his skill his greatest asset. Instead, this is what he says, "My greatest point is my persistence. I never give up in a match. However down I am, I fight until the last ball. My list of matches shows that I have turned a great many so-called irretrievable defeats into victories." Continue until you get to the top!

Love people and treat them right.
What? Love people? That´s right! Why? Because if you are going to get to the top you are going to need other people. Be a jerk and you will find people dragging their feet on you. Treat them right and you will find them helping you and even cheering you on!

Master the appropriate skills.
Average skills will get you to the middle. Top skills will get you to the TOP! This is most assuredly true when combined with the points above. Are you achieving excellence in the skills you need? Are you growing day by day, month by month, year by year? You can always get better and getting better will take you closer to the top! Even if you only improve a little, you can keep improving that small amount and it will eventually become a big amount! Demand the best from yourself and you will get to the top. Remember the words of Jose Ortega y Gasset: "We distinguish the excellent man from the common man by saying that the former is the one who makes great demands on himself, and the latter who makes no demands on himself."

Define the Top
Be Passionate
Persevere
Love others
Skill Mastery!

These will take you to the top!

Two Fools

There are two fools in this world. One is the millionaire who thinks that by hoarding money he can somehow accumulate real power, and the other is the penniless reformer who thinks that if only he can take the money from one class and give it to another, all the world's ills will be cured.

Henry Ford

To Achieve, You Must Regard

"For a man to achieve all that is demanded of him he must regard himself as greater than he is."

- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Mental Vacations

I had a wonderful time catching up with an old varsity friend yesterday. He happened to stay in the same hall with me during our freshman year. We have some common grounds: We love to play tennis, married, in the financial industry, and ... damn good-looking! (okay okay, I admit, ... I am the good-looking one: I am good at looking at others)

During our conversation, he was surprised to learn that I actually have a detailed plan for my entire life right up to age 75! What car I drive when I am 40, what house I will be in (with picture of the house), how much I set aside for vacation, household expenditures, languages to master, income I take home, ...etc.

He said I am one in a million in such approach. I agree. He ask me why. I say, "Why not?" He questioned the validity of planning so far ahead & in such vivid details. My answer is profoundly simple & simply profound: Life have to be lived forward, but it has to be understood backward, develop upward, contribute outward, & enjoy inward. This is my holistic approach & philosophy to living my life.

When was the last time you took a trip to a truly amazing place? I know mine is coming soon. I am planning a trip to KK, one to HK, & a near-term one to NYK. But do you know what is an even more amazing trip to take? A trip to your future!

Think about it: How amazing can your future be? Your past will never change; it is your past. And your present is what it is. But... your future can be anything you want it to be.

Have you thought lately about what you want your future to be? And I don't just mean seeing a wealthy person on TV and then "wishing" it was you. I mean really sitting down and envisioning your future. "Seeing" it so clearly in your mind's eye that you can actually "visit" there often?
Did you know that one of the keys to successful people achieving what they do is that they see the future before it becomes their present. And they spend their present creating that future they desire.

So, take a good vacation this year, but be sure to visit your future often so you can begin to create it today. And when your tomorrow becomes today, you will be glad you took that mental vacation! As for me, I do this daily, and such trips are healthy.

"The man who has no imagination has no wings."
- Muhammad Ali

And I must add that "he who has no moral foundation has no roots".
- Eagleboy

What's the point of achieving your highest dreams at the expense of moral bankruptcy. May we find wings and roots in our relentless pursuit of life's dreams!

Cause of Recent Volatility

As you can see from the above chart, the real culprit is the US subprime lending! Subprime lending surged amid low interest rates and rising home values. The increase in the average home pricing in turn caused more to take up loans to get more homes, ... etc.

But then again, what's the cause of the recent market volatility and subprime?
.
Ans: Delinquencies.
.
As you can see from the above chart, delinquencies in the subprime sector is going up. It will continue to chart up over the next few months. This is going to lead to a very gory financial mess. Believe me...

Fear Not Being Alone

Before I can have any joy in being alone with God I must have learned not to fear being alone with myself. Shrinking from any deep self-scrutiny is by no means an uncommon thing, and often goes far to explain the feverish restlessness with which a world-loving heart plunges into perpetual rounds of gaieties and dissipations; they serve as an escape from troublesome questions about the soul, and help to get rid of the clamours of conscience.

Positive Affirmation vs Power Words

af·fir·ma·tion/ˌæfərˈmeɪʃən/ [af-er-mey-shuhn]

Meaning:
1. the assertion that something exists or is true.
2. a statement or proposition that is declared to be true.
3. ratification of the truth or validity of a prior judgment, decision, etc.
4. a solemn declaration accepted instead of a statement under oath.
5. to assert positively

Positive affirmations have been considered the panacea within the self improvement industry for a long time. Most of the self improvement guru's teach it. However, if affirmations were as effective as they are made out to be, then why are we all not wealthy? Popular? Harmonious? Creative? Slim?

Why? Because our conscious mind interacts and interprets information we are receiving, and filters "unrealistic" messages (messages that contradict our more deeply held views) from the subconscious mind. That's its job!

How many have repeated over & over again, sometimes for months & even years on end, the simple sentence, "I am wealthy"? Were you wealthy at the time? If not, your subconscious mind was filtering that message as a lie. It says, "Yeah right, you don't have two dimes to rub together pal, get a clue." That message, the lie, is the one the subconscious mind accepts as the truth. That message is the reality the subconscious mind works on.

Truth is, no amount of present tense affirming that "A" is not "A" will ever change "A" to not "A". If you are affirming you're 1.80m tall when you're 1.69m tall, this tells your mind that you are crazy, or a liar, or even both! Yes, there is a reason you may have been feeling foolish and futile with your affirmations!

The problem lies in using the words "I am". When you use "I am" and you are not, you are opening up yourself for attack from the subconscious mind. Get rid of the notion of affirmations and replace it with a concept of Power Words.

Look again at the word wealthy. When using positive affirmations we would say to ourselves, "I am wealthy." Change the word wealthy into wealth and you now have a Power Word. Now say to yourselves, "wealth."

In quiet contemplation we think about the concept of wealth and what it means to us. What kind of lifestyle changes would we have if we had wealth. Where would we live, what would we drive, what cause would we donate part of our wealth to.

By just thinking about the concept of wealth you're instructing your conscious mind to tell your subconscious mind to personalize what the word means to you. You create in your subsconscious your reality of the word. You leave no doubt as to what the word encompasses without having to try to fool your subconscious mind into believing you already have it.

I have personally experienced successes not by lying to my conscious mind by telling it something that isn't true, but instead by laying the groundwork in the subconscious through conceptual thinking and creating the atmosphere by which the successes were attainable.

Fact is: Using affirmations in conjunction with the words, "I am" can be self-sabotaging and lead to frustration, confusion and self-doubt. Unfortunately, this is the concept that many of us have been taught. And even more unfortunately, the use of this concept is what is holding back many of us on our personal development journey, and even leading some into abandoning the journey all together.

Practice the concept of Power Words. Here's what I do. I choose a new Power Word each week, and during my quiet time I contemplate what the word means to me. Below is a list of some of the Power Words I consider important to my personal development. You can use the same list or modify it. As long as you get rid of positive affirmations and replace it with POWER WORDS!

Peace
Harmony
Honesty
Charity
Freedom
Wisdom
Kindness
Inspiration
Intelligence
Memory
Grace
Confidence
Abundance
Health
Strength
Energy
Vitality
Power
Serenity
Love
Creativity
Life
Success
Happiness
Resourcefulness
Persistence
Purpose
Achievement

Time Management

What do you consider the most important factor for managing one's time effectively?

The number one factor I would consider is to get yourself to the point where you know what the most important things are to you - your priorities; those things that when they are done will move you on toward your goal. I want to know those priorities so well that it becomes second nature to me and then when it comes time to make a decision as to what I will do or how I will spend my time, I will make the right choice.

You see time management really isn't time management, per se. It is ultimately self-management as we relate to our priorities. My church pastor called it life management.

So I would encourage you to take time on a regular basis and examine all of the options available to you that you can spend your time on. You can do this as you look at your whole life or as you look at a segment of your life.

Once you see what your options are, then make a priority list. What things are the most important? And let me say "most important," not "most enjoyable." As you do this, you see where you must spend your time.

5 Love Languages (Part 5)

Physical Touch

Many mates feel the most loved when they receive physical contact from their partner. For a mate who speaks this love language loudly, physical touch can make or break the relationship.

Sexual intercourse makes many mates feel secure and loved in a marriage. However, it is only one dialect of physical touch. Many parts of the body are extremely sensitive to stimulation. It is important to discover how your partner not only physically responds but also psychologically responds to these touches.

Clarification needed: By sexual intercourse, I meant within the sacred ring of marriage. Any sexual intimacy outside the premise of marriage is not love, but lust; and that's sin! In additional, demanding sexual favours outside the context of marriage is not love, but blackmailing!

It is important to learn how your mate speaks the physical touch language. Some touches are irritating and uncomfortable for your mate. Take the time to learn the touches your mate likes. They can be big acts, such as back massages or lovemaking, or little acts such as touches on the cheek or a hand on the shoulder. It’s important to learn how your mate responds to touch. That is how you will make the most of this love language.

All marriages will experience crisis. In these cases, physical touch is very important. In a crisis situation, a hug can communicate an immense amount of love for that person. A person whose primary love language is physical touch would much rather have you hold them and be silent than offer any advice.

It is important to remember that this love language is different for everyone. What type of touch makes you feel secure is not necessarily what will make your partner happy. It is important to learn each other’s dialects. That way you can make the most of your hugging, kissing, and other physical contacts.

Eagleboy's score on this: 1st! (ie it's my most important, primary love language!)

Though I may respond very positively to touch, please please please, wash your hands before touching me, especially right after your visit from the private oasis!

Change Your Hair Style

A man moves into a nudist colony. He receives a letter from his grandmother asking him to send her a current photo of himself in his new location. Too embarrassed to let her know that he lives in a nudist colony, he cuts a photo in half but accidentally sends the bottom half of the photo.

He's really worried when he realizes that he sent the wrong half, but then remembers how bad his grandmother's eyesight is, and hopes she won't notice.

A few weeks later he receives a letter from his grandmother. It says, "Thank you for the picture. Change your hair style .... it makes your nose look too short.

5 Love Languages (Part 4)

Words of Affirmation

Mark Twain once said “I can live for two months on a good compliment.”

Verbal appreciation speaks powerfully to persons whose primary Love Language is “Words of Affirmation.” Simple statements, such as, “You look great in that suit,” or “You must be the best baker in the world! I love your oatmeal cookies,” are sometimes all a person needs to hear to feel loved.

Aside from verbal compliments, another way to communicate through “Words of Affirmation” is to offer encouragement. Here are some examples: reinforcing a difficult decision; calling attention to progress made on a current project; acknowledging a person’s unique perspective on an important topic. If a loved one listens for “Words of Affirmation,” offering encouragement will help him or her to overcome insecurities and develop greater confidence.

Eagleboy's score on this: 2nd (ie, my very important love language!)

Okay, if you can't say it, at least SMS me, and tell me that I am great, can?

Watch the Signs

"Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated."

-Confucius

Why is it that most people complicate their own life? How does one go about complicating life?

It's simple. Most don't pay attention to the signs. No, I'm not talking about the stars aligning and astrology. I'm talking about the small changes that happen with our bodies and our finances but we choose not to pay attention.

We might recognize, as we get older that we can't bend down as we once had. Most take note of it but don't do anything about it. Our waist size grows a little bigger each year. We figure, "Well it's not too bad yet". I'll start watching myself after the holidays. And from a wealth perspective we complicate our life by giving into immediate gratification. "I need, I need, and I need". Is it need or want?

If you use your credit cards unwisely then before you know it, you dug yourself a hole you can't climb out of. Now you see how easy it is to complicate life. The best way to avoid complicating your life is to set up a system to keep healthy and a system to avoid further debt.

From a money perspective create a budget to begin saving and investing; and create a system for purchasing large-item purchases.

From a health perspective, exercise a little at a time slowly progressing over a month. You will be surprised how performing 15 minutes of exercise a day, twice a day is beneficial. Just get started.

What signs are you missing?

Wife is like Tornado

Q. How is your wife like a tornado?
A. There's a lot of sucking and blowing, but in the end you lose it all.

5 Languages of Love (Part 3)

Acts of Service

Sometimes simple chores around the house can be an undeniable expression of love. Even simple things like laundry and taking out the trash require some form of planning, time, effort, and energy. Doing humble chores can be a very powerful expression of love and devotion to your mate.

Very often, both pairs in a couple will speak to the Acts of Service Language. However, it is very important to understand what acts of service your mate most appreciates. Even though couples are helping each other around the house, couples will still fight because the are unknowingly communicating with each other in two different dialects.

For example, a wife may spend her day washing the cars and walking to dog, but if her husband feels that laundry and dishes are a superior necessity, he may feel unloved, despite the fact that his wife did many other chores throughout the day. It is important to learn your mate’s dialect and work hard to understand what acts of service will show your love.

It is important to do these acts of service out of love and not obligation. A mate who does chores and helps out around the house out of guilt or fear will inevitably not be speaking a language of love, but a language of resentment. It’s important to perform these acts out of the kindness of your heart.

Demonstrating the acts of service can mean stepping out of the stereotypes. Acts of service require both mates to humble themselves into doing some chores and services that aren’t usually expected from their gender. However, these little sacrifices will mean the world to your mate, and will ensure a happy relationship.

Eagleboy's score on this: 3rd (ie my 'quite important' love language).

If you are thinking of loving me, you can start with washing my car regularly on a weekly basis.

Emptiness

Emptiness is a symptom that you are not living creatively. You either have no goal that is important enough to you, or you are not using your talents and efforts in a striving toward an important goal.

Language Barrier

One day, an "Ang Moh" from the USA arrived at KL Airport. After he checked out from the customs, he felt he needed to go to the toilet, so he looked for one. When he found the toilet, there was a lady sitting at the entrance.

When he was about to enter the toilet, the lady stopped him and asked for forty cents in Cantonese ("sey kok"). The Ang Moh wondered why in MALAYSIA they have to "see the cock" before entering the toilet? So he said "no" but the lady insisted.

But lady still keep asking for forty cents in Cantonese. Since he had no choice, he took out his cock and showed it to her. The lady said "No! No!", "Duit, Duit!" (money in Malay), but the Ang Moh misunderstood again and thought that she said "Do it! Do it!"

So he asked,"Now? Here?" The lady replied "Yes, yes!" because she doesn't quite understand English. The Ang Moh thought that she wanted to have sex with him, so he stripped the lady and had sex with her.

The lady started screaming and shouted, "SAKIT! SAKIT!" (pain in Malay), and the Ang Moh thought it was "SUCK IT! SUCK IT!" he said "OK! I'll suck it for you" and he took her both breasts and suck them.

The lady again screamed "Oh, TUHAN!" (Oh, MY GOD.... in Malay). The Ang Moh misunderstood again. "Too HARD? OK, sweetheart, I'll be gentler a bit,"the Ang Moh replied.

Suddenly, a security guard walked by, so the lady shouted for help, "TOLONG! TOLONG, ENCIK!" The Ang Moh replied,"Not too long, just 6 inches only.

5 Languages of Love (Part 2)

Receiving Gifts

Some mates respond well to visual symbols of love. If you speak this love language, you are more likely to treasure any gift as an expression of love and devotion. People who speak this love language often feel that a lack of gifts represents a lack of love from their mate. Luckily, this love language is one of the easiest to learn.

If you want to become an effective gift giver, many mates will have to learn to change their attitude about money. If you are naturally a spender, you will have no trouble buying gifts for your mate. However, a person who is used to investing and saving their money may have a tough time adjusting to the concept of spending money as an expression of love. These people must understand that you are investing the money not in gifts, but in deepening your relationship with your mate.

The gift of self is an important symbol of love. Sometimes all your mate desires is for someone to be there for them, going through the same trials and experiencing the same things. Your body (not sex!) can become a very powerful physical symbol of love.

These gifts need not to come every day, or even every week. They don’t even need to cost a lot of money. Free, frequent, expensive, or rare, if your mate relates to the language of receiving gifts, any visible sign of your love will leave them feeling happy and secure in your relationship.

Eagleboy's score on this: 4th (ie it's my next least important love language).

But then again, that doesn't mean I don't appreciate a fine gift. Please keep them coming, okay?

Peace

Wall Street and Subprime

Wall Street's largest banks, brokers, hedge funds, 'Big Boys' are reeling from the worst housing disaster since the depths of the Great Depression! As U.S. real estate values nationwide continue to plunge, the first few dominos in a complex web of financial derivatives have already fallen - and this may be just the beginning.

During the recent boom-time in American housing markets, the titans of Wall Street lined up to feed at the money trough. Firms like Bear Stearns, Citigroup Inc., Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers Holdings and JP Morgan Chase jumped at the chance to underwrite and re-package mortgage-backed securities - an estimated $6 trillion worth!

But the plunging property markets in the U.S. have brought the chickens home to roost - and the odor is very foul indeed. U.S. home prices and the $6 trillion mortgage-backed securities market are locked in a downward death-spiral racing to the bottom, which is marked by growing foreclosures, defaults and bankruptcies.

The share of sub-prime loans entering foreclosure in the first quarter of 2007 was the highest in almost five years, and sub-prime late payments rose to nearly 14% - indicating many more foreclosures ahead. The result is massive write-offs of collateralized mortgage obligations and other debt-derivatives that are exploding like hand-grenades amid the sub-prime panic. For instance, Countrywide Financial Corp., the largest U.S. mortgage lender, admitted to $110 million of foreclosed real estate on its books at the end of March - up more than 300% in just three months.

All of this foreclosed property must then be dumped on an already oversupplied real estate market, depressing prices even further. The result is likely to be a domino effect of even more catastrophic losses in mortgage-backed derivatives held by Wall Street's firms and the hedge funds they finance.

Already, two hedge funds at Bear Stearns were on the brink of being liquidated thanks to crushing losses in a $20 billion portfolio of complex and risky mortgage-backed securities and derivatives - much of it the toxic sub-prime variety. But Bear Stearns isn't the first victim, and won't be the last by any means.

In fact since 2000, Wall Street has created more than $1.8 trillion of securities and complex derivatives backed by sub-prime mortgages. Many of these are illiquid securities, so Bear Stearns' problems may be only the tip of the iceberg!

5 Languages of Love (Part 1)

Quality Time

Quality time is more than mere proximity. It’s about focusing all your energy on your mate. A husband watching sports while talking to his wife is NOT quality time. Unless all of your attention is focused on your mate, even an intimate dinner for two can come and go without a minute of quality time being shared!

Quality conversation is very important in a healthy relationship. It involves sharing experiences, thoughts, feelings and desires in a friendly, uninterrupted context. A good mate will not only listen, but offer advice and respond to assure their mate they are truly listening. Many mates don’t expect you to solve their problems. They need a sympathetic listener!

An important aspect of quality conversation is self-revelation. In order for you to communicate with your mate, you must also be in tune with your inner emotions. It is only when you understand your emotions and inner feelings will you then be able to share quality conversation, and quality time with your mate.

Quality activities are a very important part of quality time. Many mates feel most loved when they spend physical time together, doing activities that they love to do. Spending time together will bring a couple closer, and, in the years to come, will fill up a memory bank that you can reminisce about in the future.

Whether it’s sitting on the couch and having a brief conversation or playing together in a tennis league, quality time is a love language that is shared by many. Setting aside focused time with your mate will ensure a happy marriage.

Eagleboy's score on this: 5th (ie this is my least important love language)

Clarification needed: Least important doesn't mean not important. It is least important compare to the other love languages. So please do spend time with me, okay.

Job Switching

Random coincidences? By default or design? By appointment or by accident? 2 friends asked me about switching jobs today. If one more individual ask me the same question within the next 8 hours, I will go & buy 4-D or Toto tomorrow. I will.

But to the many out there, I have a quick question for you:

Do you just somehow know that you’re "playing too small" in life?" Do you feel like you’re stuck in a rut in your job or personal life? (okay...that's 2 questions above)

Fact is: We live unexamined lives in a unstoppable changing environment. The masses' lamentation is : No time! I can suggest you go wear two watches, but you will still have no time. Why? Think. No time to think. Reflection & solitude is practically a lost art. A clear 20-20 vision is so needed yet so lacking. No wonder some call ours a lazy generation.

The problem for this generation sometimes lies in having too many options & choices before us. Having none is equally bad for our previous generation. Ponder about this.

To the younger girl who wanted to exit the advertising market to join the financial industry, this is what I can offer: One step at a time. There are shortcuts apparently, but they are not for you, for obvious reason. Remember: Shortcuts often short-change you & short-circuited your developmental tasks at hand.

Take a chance on your greatness, my friend!
Take the first step of action right now.
Take charge, not take cover.

And keep this in mind: When the student is ready, the teacher appears!

Market Today is Back!

Another day of mixed action across the board. The NASDAQ lead the way in terms of percentage gain yesterday, closing with a gain just over 0.50%. The Dow closed slightly higher, at +0.15%, while the S&P 500 closed flat. US stock futures are trading sharply lower this morning.

It seems the sub prime issue is making headlines once again. A Bear Sterns hedge fund that was reportedly worth just over $600 million in March is now said to be worthless. Yes. Zero. Downgrades in the sub prime sector have been taking place all morning as well.

Aside from sub prime news, there were several data releases this morning. They are as follows:

Core CPI m/m: +0.2% vs +0.2% consensus
CPI m/m :+0.2% vs +0.1% consensus
Core CPI y/y: +2.2% vs +2.2% consensus
CPI y/y: +2.7% vs +2.6% consensus
Housing Stats: 1467 vs. 1450K consensus
Building Permits: 1406vs. 1480K consensus

The yield on 10 year Treasury remains stable, now at 5.05%. Crude Oil is now putting pressure on 75 resistance, trading at 74.24 per barrel. Gold has stabilized a bit after seeing some upside momentum, now at 667.10 an ounce.

That's all for now. I am look ing for a picture to post in my next entry. Look out for it.

The Waiting Game

General Omar Bradley once said,

"This is as true in everyday life as it is in battle: We are given one life, and the decision is ours whether to wait for circumstances to make up our mind or whether to act and, in acting, to live."

Waiting.

That's what a lot of people I know do.

They wait for the right time to lose weight, invest in real estate or stocks, start a new business, follow through with an idea, etc. My favorite "waiting" thought process occurs in people who want to change their nutritional lifestyle (another way of saying 'Lose that kilo'). They will wait until Christmas or New Year is over, or Easter, or whatever holiday is around the corner.

The problem is: there is always a holiday or vacation or a party "just around the corner".

The real estate or stock market is up. No, it's down. No...I am not sure...

The market is always fluctuating. Correction ahead. Sideway trading...You know what? Holidays will always be around the corner. Yet someone is always making money in stocks and real estate and someone is always staying in shape. Round is also a shape, you know?

So what is the best defense to "waiting" for the perfect time?

Education.

Learning how to enjoy the holidays but still stick with you nutrition guidelines.

Learning how to invest in businesses, stocks and real estate in a way you will have minimal losses and maximum gains

You have to invest in yourself. Invest in books, CD's, DVD's, coaches, mentors and surround yourself with like minded friends, like ... ahem ... me. I have heard my first sales mentor who said that '5 years from now, who you will become is a by-product of the books you read & the people you meet'. I must add that it is also the by-product of the principles you heed and the food you feed.

Create your own circumstances. Stop waiting!

Touchpoints of Love

What is the means of communicating love? Practically speaking, what are the various ways we can communicate love? What does loving another person looks like? How does one know whether his or her efforts to communicate love are actually having an impact on the one they direct their love to? Tough questions, huh.

I believe God put within man the capacity to feel love, & equally important, the capacity to communicate love to others. And I believe there are 2 sides of love: giving & receiving. Giving love is the action side; receiving is the feeling side. The problem is, giving love can often be frustrating because we are not always sure that our actions are interpreted as love. That is because people all have different primary touchpoints of love. These touchpoints are like different languages - love languages. You may call it emotional languages.

We say, "I love you" in one language, while emotionally they say & receive it in another. As a result, our efforts to demonstrate love are frustrated. To avoid that frustration, we must first learn the basic languages of love & then learn the primary love languages of others.

According to Dr Gary Chapman's book, "The Five Love Languages", there are 5 ways of expressing love that correspond with the 5 touchpoints of love. I will discuss that over the next few entries. So stay tuned!

Golf & Therapist

A couple of women were playing golf one sunny Saturday morning. The first of the twosome teed off and watched in horror as her ball headed directly toward a foursome of men playing the next hole.Indeed, the ball hit one of the men, and he immediately clasped his hands together at his crotch, fell to the ground and proceeded to roll around in evident agony.

The woman rushed down to the man and immediately began to apologize. She explained that she was a physical therapist: "Please allow me to help. I'm a physical therapist and I know I could relieve your pain if you'd just allow me!" she told him earnestly.

"Ummph, oooh, nnooo, I'll be all right. I'll be fine in a few minutes," he replied breathlessly as he remained in the fetal position still clasping his hands together at his crotch. But she persisted, and he finally allowed her to help him.

She gently took his hands away and laid them to the side, she loosened his pants, and she put her hands inside. After a short massage she asked him, "How does that feel?"

To which he replied: "It feels great, but my thumb still hurts like hell!"

Imagination

What is it that we spend most of our imagination on? The future!

Our imagination is simply an "image" we create of that which isn't a reality yet. It is what we think will be. If we use our imagination to think that our future is going to be bad - we call that pessimism - and pessimism will never help you to become a success.

When we use our imagination to think of a great future - we call that optimism - and optimism is the thing that will give your life flight. When you have positive imagination, when you can see all of the possibilities, and see them as good, then will your life take flight on the wings of optimistic imagination!

Since what we imagine is simply a choice of the will, I suggest you take some time today to begin to foster optimism in your life. I know it not easy. Since when did anyone say that good and great things are easy? Take a situation you think is going to turn out poorly and begin to change how you think of it. Use your imagination to see how that situation could turn out great!

Thought it Over

"As the biggest library, if it is in disorder is not as useful as a small but well-arranged one, so you may accumulate a vast amount of knowledge but it will be of far less value to you than a much smaller amount if you have not thought it over for yourself."

Fix it with...Glue

Ali married Aminah. Ali was so innocent that he did not know how to consummate the marriage (actually he didn't even know the differences of the male and female anatomy).

Aminah got tired of waiting, took off all her clothes one night and lied on the bed. Ali was shocked seeing a naked Aminah. He was more shocked that Aminah had lost her penis.

Ali contacted his neighbour, a doctor."Please fix it back for her!!!(Must sew properly!!!)

The doctor asked to be alone with Aminah, took advantage of the situation and had his rounds of fun with Aminah.

After the doctor leaves, Ali enters the room again and found the penis still unattached. He touched where the penis is supposed to be affixed and felt something sticky."The bastard doctor, ask him do sewing, he go and put glue!!!"

Good Sales Person

Good Sales Person (by Ron White)

Last week I walked into a shop that sells Afghan rugs - and not some imitation but the real deal. These were genuine rugs hand made in Afghanistan. As I was talking to the shop owner, I was looking at five or six rugs that were all the same size and style - only the colors varied a little. I asked him, 'How much for these rugs?' Because I knew they were all the same price (and turns out that they were).

He could have said, '$190 each.' But he didn't, he did what I wish I could get more sales people to do and that is not get overly giddy at the first buying sign (questions are buying signs) and blurt out the answer. Instead, ask a question to allow the prospect to feel as if the buying decision was his idea. For example, this rug salesman didn't give me the price - he said, 'Which one do you like?' By asking this question he was:

1. Maintaining control of the conversation - if you give the price then they talk next about anything they want and you are not controlling the conversation. If you ask a question then they talk next about what YOU want!

2. Allowing me to feel as if I was buying and not being sold.

When someone says, 'Do you have this in red?' Don't say 'Yes!'. Instead, ask 'Would you like it in red?' I guarantee you my Afghan rug salesman would! Maintain control and let them buy. If you do, you are going to sell a lot of rugs (or whatever you sell). By the way, when he asked the question I laughed because I admired his style and, yes of course, I now have a new rug.

"Jane" was becoming frustrated with her husband's insistence that they have sex in the dark. Hoping to free her husband from his inhibitions, during a passionate evening, she flipped on the lamp, only to discover a cucumber in his hand.

Smart Jewish Samurai

Back in the time of the Samurai there was a powerful emperor who needed a new head Samurai so he sent out a declaration throughout the country that he was searching for one. A year passed and only 3 people showed up: a Japanese Samurai, a Chinese Samurai and a Jewish Samurai.

The emperor asked the Japanese Samurai to come in and demonstrate why he should be head Samurai. The Japanese Samurai opened a match box and out pops a little fly. Whoosh goes his sword and the fly drops dead on the ground in 2 pieces. The emperor exclaimed: "That is very impressive!"

The emperor then asked the Chinese Samurai to come in and demonstrate. The Chinese Samurai also opened a match box and out pops a fly. Whoosh, whoosh goes his sword. The fly drops dead on the ground in 4 pieces. The emperor exclaimed: "That is really very impressive!"

The emperor then had the Jewish Samurai demonstrate why he should be the head Samurai. The Jewish Samurai also opened a match box and out pops a fly. His flashing sword goes whoooooooossshhh whoooooooossshhh whoooooooossshhwhoooooooossshhh. A gust of wind fills the room, but the fly is still alive and buzzing around.

The emperor, obviously disappointed, asks: "After all of that, why is the fly not dead?"

The Jewish Samurai smiled, "Well, circumcision is not intended to kill.

A Psalm of Life

What the heart of the young man said to the psalmist

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world's broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act, act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o'erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

Multiple Purchases

Trying to make up for bad behavior, Bill Clinton went to the shopping mall to buy Hillary a gift.

"I'd like to buy some gloves for my wife," he says, eyeing the attractive salesgirl, "but I don't know her size."

"Will this help?" she asked sweetly, placing her hand in his.

"Oh, yes," he answered. "Her hands are just slightly smaller than yours."

"Will there be anything else?" the salesgirl inquired, as she wrapped the gloves.

"Now that you mention it," Bill replied, "she also needs a bra and panties."

Vampire Bat

A vampire bat came flapping in from the night covered in fresh blood and parked himself on the roof of the cave to get some sleep.

Pretty soon all the other bats smelled the blood and began hassling him about where he got it. He told them to knock it off and let him get some sleep but they persisted in hassling him to no end until finally he gave in.

"OK!" he said with exasperation, "Follow me." and he flew out of the cave with hundreds of bats following close behind him. Down through the valley they went, across the river and into the deep forest. Finally he slowed down and all the other bats excitedly gathered around him.

"Do you see that tree over there?" he asked.

"Yes, yes, yes!" the bats all screamed in a frenzy.

"Good," said the first bat, "Because I DIDN'T!"

Men Are Like ...

A guy's life can be described as a train on a railway track.

When they are 20, Every station they want to stop.

When they are 30, they can only stop at one station.

When they are 40, They want to stop but they are not allowed to stop.

When they are 50, They want to stop but they cannot stop.

When they are 60, They can't even start. How to stop?

The Gepgraphy of Women

Between the ages of 15 - 20 a woman is like Africa.
She is half discovered, half wild.

Between the ages of 20 - 30 a woman is like America.
Fully discovered and scientifically perfect.

Between the ages of 30 - 35, she is like India & Japan.
Very hot, wise and beautiful.

Between the ages of 35 - 40 a woman is like France.
She is half destroyed after the war but still desirable.

Between the ages of 40 - 50 she is like Germany.
She lost the war but not the hope.

Between the ages of 50 - 60 she is like Russia.
Very wide, very quiet but nobody goes there.

Between the ages of 60 - 70 a woman is like England.
With a glorious past but no future.

After 70, they become Siberia.
"Everyone knows where is it, but no one wants to go there."

Too Many Idiots

As a group of soldiers stood in formation at an Army Base, the Drill Sergeant said, "All right! All you idiots fall out."

As the rest of the squad wandered away, one soldier remained at attention.

The Drill Instructor walked over until he was eye-to-eye with him, & then raised a single eyebrow.

The soldier smiled & said, "Sure was a lot of 'em, huh, sir?"

ONLY BLUE
ONLY BLUE

Miscommunication at the Airport

One day, an "Ang Moh" from USA arrived at KLIA Airport.

Do it!" So he asked,"Now?

"Too HARD? OK, sweetheart, I'll be gentler a bit," the Ang Moh replied.

Suddenly, a security guard walked by, so the lady shouted for help, "TOLONG! TOLONG, ENCIK!" The Ang Moh replied,"Not too long, just 6 inches only."

Discipline

Focus & determination are a formidible quality & a raw energy with which to work, but need to be refined by an equally powerful human aspect, one which relies on our power to choose; discipline.

Discipline is the process by which we refine our focus & manifest our ideas, setting down plans of action & following them through. We cannot simply dream, nor can we only act one day & not the next, we must apply forceful & diligent discipline to the raw ore that is our focus in order to obtain anything of worth.

Discipline is the master of habit, making wings of chains that may one day become too heavy too carry but for the moment are too light to be noticed. Get a jump on the competition & on your life & focus on consistency of action every day.

- John Kanary

"Discipline is the soul of an army. It makes small numbers formidable, procures success to the weak, and esteem to all."

- George Washington

Big Enough

"If you know what to do to reach your goal, it's not a big enough goal."

Bob Proctor
Speaker and Author

Heaven on Earth

"Heaven on earth is a choice you must make, not a place we must find."
-Wayne Dyer

Some people will always make their source of true happiness something which needs to be found while it is really something that needs to be chosen. Once chosen, anywhere we are becomes a paradise.
- John Kanary

As we continue our search for our perfect paradise we tend to overlook a few things. Our happiness, health and wealth, our personal heaven, lives within us much like a paper doll to be dressed as we see fit; dressed as whatever we seem to believe will make our paradise.

Soul on Fire

"The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor."

-Vince Lombardi

Whatever your goal, it is never too small. Take time to use your short term victories, your 'minors', to fan your soul's fire into a brighter flame. Never relent from your course, as it is commitment that is the worthiest ideal. Others may question your non-negotiable commitment, but the more often this happens, the more you can be sure that your commitment is of admirable strength.

In this life, there is no scarcity, only a lack of resolve.

- John Kanary

Life vs Life Situation

"Forget about your life situation & pay attention to your life. Your life situation exists in time. Your life is now. Your life situation is mind-stuff. Your life is real."

- Eckhart Tolle

Wrong Hand

Her friend replied, "Don't do anything. Just ignore it."

The first girl said, "I can't."

Her friend, "Why can't you ignore it?"

2) "Define 'light bulb' ..."

3) "How can you be sure it needs changing?"

4) Three. One to change it and two to stand around arguing over whether or not the light bulb exists.
